Enticing chocolate in Madrid
One of my favourite things about Spain is having a hot chocolate on a cold day. Now hot chocolate in Spain is not about stirring a bit of cocoa powder into a mug of milk or water. Hot chocolate in Spain is about spooning melted, thick pure chocolate out of a mug, or dipping a type of pastry into the chocolate. This incredibly rich drink is an experience worth crossing the ocean for. I have it as a treat once or twice a year and I have my favourite place picked out to enjoy this wonder: Cacao Sampaka.
First of all, Cacao Sampaka isn’t just a place to stop and have a chocolate drink with a muffin, this is a shop that lets you experience chocolate as you never have in your life.
The shop has every variety of chocolate you could imagine and many that you couldn’t. There are combinations with every fruit and nut, but also odd combinations like spices or anchovies.
The cafeteria has numerous desserts and pastries to go with your chocolate delight. Personally, I can’t imagine why you would visit Sampaka without trying the thick hot chocolate drink. They have three different flavours to temp you—Traditional (70% cocoa and cinnamon), Azteca (80% cocoa and spices) and Swiss (chocolate cream).
This is an experience that you can’t miss when you come to Madrid.
