Get back to nature in style at El Milano Real Hotel

On a recent trip to get to know the Gredos valley (Valle de Gredos) my husband and I stayed at El Milano Real hotel.

Where is El Milano Real?

The El Milano Real hotel is situated on the northern side of the Gredos mountains in the village of Hoyos del Espino

Review of El Milano Real

Here are my impressions of the Milano Real hotel:

Surrounded by immense landscapes, unspoilt nature and a wide open valley the Milano Real hotel is the perfect spot to get close to nature.

The Milano Real hotel ensures your comfort is catered to in every way, starting with the breathtaking views offered from the window of the rooms. Choosing which hiking trail to enjoy might be the most difficult decision of the day.

You can choose a double room, double superior or suite. The double superior and suites are all thematic rooms. Each room is decorated according to its own namesake. You can choose between the Japanese, Colonial, Millennial, Nordic, English, Arabic, Manhattan or Gredos.

Each of the double superior rooms and suites is large and has extra touches to add to the comfort of your stay. Some rooms have skylights and the suites have balconies overlooking the hotel gardens.

We were given the Millennial suite. It was ultra modern. The colour scheme was a soft grey that I love, with a few red highlights. The jacuzzi tub was enormous and was part of the bedroom.

There was a sitting area with a sofa and two chairs. The bed was a king size and very comfortable. The room had a balcony—with a wooden patio table and two chairs—that overlooked the valley and mountains beyond.

Another bonus I need to mention is that our room had excellent wifi service. Easily accessible wifi was available throughout the hotel.

A tour of the Hotel

The rest of the installations at the hotel were just as welcoming and inviting. Everything from a communal lounge decorated in colonial style with high wooden ceilings to the cozy library complete with walls of books and comfortable sofas and reading corners to a few more private sitting areas peppered throughout the hotel encouraged guests to enjoy every moment of their stay.

The gardens are enchanting and are in supreme condition from spring until late in the fall. There are many unique plants that ensure something is constantly in bloom and the grass stays lush and green until late in the season.

Roberto Garcia took us around on a tour to acquaint us with the installations. I asked him which of the suites was the most coveted. Garcia said, “both the Millennium and Japanese are the most requested by couples.” He added, “we have a few regular guests that always request the same rooms each time they come.”

The dining experience at El Milano Real

Garcia was very proud of the quality and style that El Milano aspires to in the kitchen. He said, “our dishes are created incorporating products from the region, for example, when boletus mushrooms are in season they are used in many dishes.” Garcia also said that local beef from is used in many signature dishes.

We had breakfast at El Milano Real and can confirm it serves top quality cuisine with the freshest of ingredients. First, we were brought three samples of fresh juice—strawberry, orange and pear. The strawberry was one of the best I have ever tasted, and the other two followed very closely behind.

On a long plate came three small cups—one of yogurt, one of a type of fruit mouse and one of apple sauce, these also came with a cup of muesli. Another plate was full of different types of pastries—muffins, churros, croissants, lemon cake and palmera de chocolate.

Quiche, tortilla, cheese and ham are all part of the breakfast

On yet another plate were servings of quiche, tortilla de patata with ham and fresh cheese. In the centre of the table there was a basket full of freshly toasted bread along with servings of butter, orange butter, locally made jam and honey from the valley. Just when I thought it was impossible to get more food on one table a fruit plate showed up to finish off the ensemble.

Each product was of top quality and obviously made with the freshest of ingredients. I don’t think I have ever had a more complete or tastier breakfast served in Spain.

Highlight of the hotel

The highlight for many guests is the opportunity to have a “star tourism” vacation. El Milano Real is one of the few hotels in Spain certified as a “cielo oscuro” or “dark sky.” El Milano Real has its own telescope and dome to perfect the stargazing experience. As long as the sky is clear you can make a reservation for sky gazing for any night of the year. You will have a guide show you constellations, stars and planets that are visible at the time of year you are watching.
